Biography of Raymond Carlton Jonas

Raymond Carlton Jonas was born on January 31, 1908 in Foard County, Texas. He was the first child born to Felix Jacob Jonas and Mary Evelyn (pronounced Eveleen) Whatley Jonas. He also had a younger brother named Marvin Lee Clinton Jonas, but unforunatley Ray lost Marvin to apendicitis when Marvin was only 16. Ray met Virgie Lee Johnson. They were married at the Baptist Church in Thalia, Texas. The first place they lived was with Ray's parents, Felix and Mary Evelyn Jonas on their farm which was northwest of Virgie's brother,
	O'neal's farm. Ray and Virgie faithfully attended church services and Sunday School at the Thalia Baptist Church. Virgie and Ray also attended public singings where Ray would sing and Virgie would play the piano. When the young couple moved away from the Jonas farm they stayed at the Early and Fannie Shaw farm northwest of Thalia for a while.
It was during that time that their daughter Doris Leahray Jonas was born in 1934. Fifteen months after that they had another daughter named Linda Louise Jonas. The family moved to Amarillo soon after WWII broke out in 1941, where Ray could get a defense related job at the Pantex Ordinance Plant (bomb). Ray went to school to become an accountant . He would eventually become the Chief Accountant of Region 5 of The Bureau of Mines, Helium Facility. The Bureau of Mines is now known as The Bureau of Land Management. In 1943 Ray and Vergie had a third daughter, Karen Denise, but unfortunately she died as an infant. Raymond died in 1953 at the age of 45 due to a myocardial infarction (heart attack).
